• Linux Today posts all the Linux news (sometimes this can be overwhelming): http://linuxtoday.com/
• Slashdot posts only about 10 stories a day - (and sometimes the discussions can be underwhelming). But even after all these years (and even in spite of Taco's ego) they're somehow still worth visiting, more or less daily: http://slashdot.org/
• Linux Weekly News is more selective than Linux Today and more Linux-oriented than Slashdot. They have a weekly edition (hence the name) but it's so packed with stuff, I usually never have time to read it. Instead, I read the daily updates: http://lwn.net/daily/

• Unix is more than just an operating system. In the old days, most new users would have had access to a genuine resident guru -- like Zen Masters, these gurus would guide and help new users and pass on a lot of anecdotes and stories about Unix. These days, too many new users have no access to gurus, which is a shame and (in my opinion) leads too many of these users to try to make Linux Microsoft-like (bleah). Just as the Wizard of Oz couldn't give the Scarecrow a Brain, but could give him a diploma -- I can't give you a guru. But I can give you The Jargon File , which contains much of the accumulated Unix wisdom -- and all of the anecdotes: http://www.netmeg.net/jargon/
• The Bastard Operator From Hell, or BOFH , is also something of a surrogate Unix guru for orphaned new users. If at first you don't get the jokes, just keep visiting every once in a while til you do: http://bofh.ntk.net/Bastard.html
• And the Bastard's Not Dead Yet (though maybe he should be...) The Register runs the New BOFH (BOFH returns from the dead) which, unfortunately, just isn't anything as good as the original: http://theregister.co.uk/000112-000003.html

  These next two resources are some I've noticed lately, but haven't really had time to go through -- they look OK, but I'm not familiar enough with either to give it a real writeup at this time.

• Linux Newbie (.org, not to be confused with .com) looks like a good resource for those new to Linux and Unix: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/

• If you are reading this and have a Linux or Unix box running, then you are connected to the Internet -- and you should be concerned about security. It sort of looks like it hasn't been updated lately -- but even so, Dave Dittrich's home page is an excellent resource and starting point for learning more about security: http://www.washington.edu/People/dad/
• Some people would say that attrition and 2600 are controversial (maybe they are) but they are excellent resources. attrition.org has an intro to Unix for newbies here and an intro to security here. Enter the main site here: http://attrition.org/
